My Values
Creative Environment
Acceptance
I firmly believe that every individual's creative expression is inherently unique and valuable. This belief encourages me to foster an environment where individuals feel safe and empowered to embrace vulnerability, work with whatever arises in the present moment, and explore their own creative impulses without judgment or preconceived notions of what the outcome "should" be. This emphasis on acceptance allows for a sense of freedom and openness in the creative process, fostering a space where individuals can authentically express themselves without fear of failure or criticism.
Discovery
Embracing imperfection is a cornerstone of my approach; I emphasize that the artistic process itself, with all its inherent messiness, unpredictability, and potential for "mistakes," is far more valuable than any finished product. By shifting the focus away from the end result and onto the journey of exploration and discovery, I encourage others to let go of perfectionistic tendencies and embrace the beauty of the unexpected.
Curiosity
Curiosity and experimentation are actively encouraged in my practice. By inviting individuals to explore different mediums, techniques, and approaches, and play with ideas, I aim to open up a realm of possibilities and allow for the unexpected to emerge. This emphasis on curiosity fosters a sense of adventure and encourages students to take risks, embrace the unknown, and discover new facets of their creativity.
Artistic Inspiration
Embodied
I also place a strong emphasis on the connection between the body and the creative process. Through somatic and sensory awareness practices, such as mindful movement, breathwork, and visualization, I guide students to tap into the wisdom of their bodies, cultivate a deeper awareness of their physical sensations and emotions, and access a deeper source of imagination and inspiration. This somatic approach allows students to connect with their intuition, move beyond intellectualization, and engage with the creative process from a more embodied and holistic perspective.
Grounded
Finally, a profound respect for the natural world underpins my entire artistic philosophy. I view the earth as both a wellspring of inspiration and a guiding force, and I believe that connecting with nature can deepen our creative expression and enhance our sense of well-being. By incorporating eco-arts, natural materials, and nature-based practices I strive to honor the earth, foster a deeper connection with nature through creativity, and inspire people to become more environmentally conscious and responsible in their artistic practices.
